Is live chat software a useful tool for an online business or does it turn customers away by annoying them? For those that want to try it out, don't spend a fortune - there's an open source free live chat program available.

Like most online business owners I often spend time looking at new options and potential improvements to the way we do business. This week I started to wonder if having a live chat facility on our website would turn more new visitors into new clients so I decided that a quick Google search was in order. Being ever cost conscious I always make a habit of adding “free” to my search terms, just in case. Well, this week it led me to the Comm100 website – it offers an open source, hosted, live chat program. Completely free. No monthly fees and no cost for adding it to your website. It looks great – but will it work for us?

The big question is, does having a live chat facility on your website actually encourage potential clients to ask questions and eventually order? Does it drive some people away by annoying them? When I walk into a retain store and various assistants approach me every 3 minutes asking “can I help you?” it’s just annoying and much more likely to result in me leaving the store prematurely. Does the same apply to an online store assistant? Would people just prefer to be left alone? Personally, if I wanted help I’d ask for it. In an online environment, that is as easy as sending an email. This might be a little cynical but surely one of the reasons people like doing things online is because they don’t have to talk to anybody!

On the other hand, people shopping online, particularly those looking for a service, are impatient. They want immediate answers. I’m very quick to click away from a site if it doesn’t provide the volume of information I need to make a decision. Would I ask a question if I was invited to chat live with a business representative? Maybe. Would you? Would your prospective customers?

If you’re an Aussie online business operator and you’ve tried, or are currently trialling a live chat facility on your site I’d love to hear about your experience. Is it increasing your conversions or is it just annoying the site visitors?

If you’re interesting in checking out the Comm100 live chat facility you’ll find it here. They also offer free hosted forum facilities.

Do you need regular blog content? Why not let Article Writers Australia do all the hard work for you?

Business blogs are a fabulous tool – but if you don’t have time to write and add the content, your lovely new blog will be wasted! Few business operators do have time to “blog” – they’re busy attending to more mundane business chores. Those who don’t enjoy writing find blogging the worst chore of all – but having good blog content and posting regularly can boost your website traffic and subsequently your business.

Just two blog articles a week, every week, can help to increase traffic to your website and will start to build up the content level of your blog. Don’t like blogging? We do! Don’t have enough ideas for regular blog content? We do!

Try one of our new blog content packages:

Premium Business Blog Content AU$99 per week*

2 x 250-400 word posts per week. If you offer services rather than products and/or you prefer more in-depth posts, the Premium Package may be more suitable for you. We’ll upload your posts.

With both the basic and premium packages you can choose to supply topics or keywords, or have our writers choose them. You’ll receive copies of your posts for approval prior to upload.

Book your regular blog content deal now – at the moment we’re offering this service on a limited basis.
*GST will be added for Australian clients from mid-April.

TO ORDER:

Simply email me to book your place for either the Basic or Premium Blog Content Pack and let me know your preferred payment method.
If you’re a first time AWA client you’re welcome to trial our service by purchasing just the first week’s posts.

Let’s face it, the content your software churns out doesn’t always make sense does it? A thinking, breathing article rewriter would do a better job - ours would!

We’ve recently started offering article rewrites but only on our own work – that’s because rewriting a poorly written article written by someone else can take longer than preparing a new original article! Our article rewriters are the same writers who prepare the original articles and that allows us to reduce the overall cost to you because the rewrites are less time consuming.

Check out our triplet article packs that contain two rewrites of each unique article. The cost can average out at just AU$20 for a pack of 60 articles.

Next time you need an article rewriter, speak to us first!

The search engines have found our new shopping cart and the website traffic to our PLR Article site is already quite healthy.

It’s just as well writers can write about anything…and nothing! While our PLR Article shopping cart website got off to a great start, Christmas and life in general (the residential relocation from hell but that’s another story) got in the way for a few weeks. As a result, there was very little PLR article writing done in the weeks leading up to Christmas and hence, no additional products uploaded to our site and no updates on our shopping cart experience. The best laid plans go to muck, as they say around here.

Despite that, the search engines have found the new shopping cart site and the traffic to the site is already quite healthy. The first orders came in just after Christmas. Having not looked at our site analytics during the hectic move and Christmas period I was pleasantly surprised to discover that we’re already on page 1 for our keyword PLR Articles and are listed 1st in Australia for PLR Articles. Considering the site is only weeks old, I can’t be anything but happy about that!

One of resolutions for the New Year involved SEO for this site. We’ve taken the step of engagingthe services of an SEO consultant to work with us over an extended period. I hope to learn a lot during that time and as I find out useful information, I’ll pass it along via our new newsletter (another New Year’s resolution).

As for the Magicdust shopping cart – it’s working well, it’s easy to use and so far, I can’t fault their support.

Magicdust shopping cart update about support.

Originally posted 24 November 2009.

All is still going well with our shopping cart experience, although getting our content onto the site is taking time – but that’s our fault! I had this fabulous plan to write up at least 5 article packs a week myself so that we’d have plenty of article packs in different categories by the time we went live. Then we became quite busy with large orders for unique articles and blog posts and that plan went out the window, as plans often tend to do!

The Magicdust support is quite good so far. One support request was missed but responded to immediately when I pointed that out. Importantly, the support team are friendly and helpful. I’m sure I’m not alone in having experienced some woeful support from various Internet related organisations. You know the ones I’m talking about – where in response to your support ticket you receive an almost unintelligible reply that doesn’t come close to answering your question or solving the problem; so you send another one, and point out that they seem to be addressing a different question, re-state the original question, and receive another unintelligible and irrelevant response. If you’re impatient like me, the third email gets a little terse and re-states the problem yet again – and when the response is just as unintelligible, you begin to wonder if you’re actually being attended to by some sort of automated response system rather than by a human being with a brain!

It’s a bit like having a conversation with someone in the complaints department of a big telecommunications company!

Back to the subject at hand – I’m finding the shopping cart very easy to use and getting questions answered is a relatively simple and frustration free exercise. So far I’d say the hosted shopping cart is money well spent.

An update on our Magicdust shopping cart experience.

Originally posted 21 November 2009

Our shopping cart site was delivered ahead of schedule, a few days ago. It caught us on the hop so now article writers are busy getting our plr article packs together. I have to say, I’m very impressed with the simplicity of the cart administration and I’m very pleased I selected this particular cart. It’s a very logical set up and I don’t have to look too far, or read mountains of material to work out what to do. Simple is good. I like it.

No major issues with it so far although I have had questions for the support team. The first was answered in a day or so. The second was sent a day or so ago so I expect they’ll respond shortly. I still have quite a few things to work out but on the whole, I think it’s going to work out very well for us. Did I mention it was simple to use? It has everything I need and nothing I don’t need. I just love simple. The less buttons to push and things to click, the less trouble I’m likely to get myself into! I’m the sort of person who resents having to search through 50 different types of toothpaste at the supermarket to find the one marked “regular” and I think the person who designed the Magicdust shopping cart must be a kindred spirit!

So far we have only 4 article packs up – on the topics of employment, small business, work from home and Christmas – but there should be several more going up this week.

An update on our shopping cart experience with Magicdust.

Originally posted 12 November 2009:

Well it’s a case of so far so good with out Magicdust shopping cart experience and I’m really looking forward to seeing our new PLR article site up and running.

After completing the design brief we quickly received four designs to choose from. I’m pleased to say it was a difficult choice – because all four were very professional in appearance and any of the four would have done the job nicely.

After only a little agonising, I suggested some minor changes – these were done and several modified versions were sent promptly – groan…another decision to make. Seriously, it was quite painless, and I’m very happy with the way the new site will look. My guess is it will be finished ahead of schedule at the current pace – so we’re quite busy preparing the plr article packs so they’ll be ready to upload at the earliest opportunity.

Speaking of work…back to the article writing!
